It has come to my attention that one of your employees has been hurt severely while at work…The circumstances involved three people who dined & dashed…The employee attempted to pursue, & a fourth person, possibly an accomplice, or possibly an outsider/off-duty cop/vigilante, smashed the employee’s head into a lampost…The person who committed the assault purportedly used as an excuse that he thought the employee himself was dining & dashing…But the supposed “mistaken” assault went without any credential given, name, identification or level of authority…The employee spent the evening of Tuesday August 2, 2011 at St. Michael’s hospital emergency ward…
The capture & punishment of all persons involved is paramount of course & the police should be notified immediately if they have been not already…But a pressing concern is St. Louis Wings dine & dash policy…
Employees should not under any circumstance be allowed to pursue dine & dash customers…Robberies are usually at the liability of the establishment, not of the servers, though some groups opt to have a 50 cent per day per server Dash fund to pay for such happenings…If a server opts to pay into the Dash fund, then monies are taken out in those events(some provinces do not allow this)…Management should also be told not to pursue dashers, as they could be dangerous…As in any normal mugging, people are told to hand over their wallets & not fight with their attacker…For good reason…
The injuries of this employee should be well photographed now in order to bear witness to the severity of the assault for prosecution use at a later date…It is of no use to wait till the wounds heal to take photos…Unfortunately the injury is so severe that this should not be covered up or hidden in any way from authorities or other employees…
I am concerned for this individual & hope that St. Louis Wings helps him with his recovery, both physical & mental, as well as putting the full force of your institution into catching the perpetrators, including financial support or legal expenses…Also, again, a revisiting of dine & dash policies, with a reinforcement of the notion that pursuit or capture of said dashers should be left to professionals…If this has happened before then a consideration to hiring a security guard is in order- particularly in “bad” neighbourhoods…
Please keep me informed by email grove@sent.com of developments in this issue…Thank you for your time, Sari Grove ( a concerned party)
