credithttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Mink photo creditOk, the first photo shows a European Mink…Endangered…
The second photo shows an American Mink…not endangered…
What’s my point?
Um, well they look alike…
What would Darwin say?
probably that these two fellars are related, & that one is surviving better than the other because of some something that the other one doesn’t have…
Like the American one has a flatter nose? A furrier belly? A face that looks more like a bear than a rodent?
These might be reasons why Nature has selected one over the other…
Or not…
Is it ok to trap an American mink because of this distinction but then fervently protect a European mink?
I don’t know, it’s a little weird…
Like Mute swans & Trumpeter swans…
Mute swans are apparently ubiquitous, Trumpeter swans not so much…
Does that make it ok to oil a Mute swan egg in Canada? (oiling means killing it to control population)…
I don’t know…I think that’s weird…
To kill off a successful species…
I mean if varieties of waterbirds are dying because of mercury in marshlands caused by the burning of dried solid waste matter (pooh), then some more common resilient species might survive…Like Canada geese…
By killing off an overpopulation of Canada geese, that does not necessarily bring back all those fragile species of waterbird…
It just kills off alot of geese…
But it doesn’t fix the underlying problem of too much solid dry pooh being incinerated then the resulting mercury being released into the water & air space choking off wildlife species that are more fragile…
It doesn’t fix encroaching on marsh habitat by offshore speculative investors who are building vertically, ridiculously high condo buildings, with no intention of living in them, but merely to milk them for rent, sale or lease monies, then feed that money into the Caymans or wherever they hide their tax free money stash…
Will Trump keep his hotel money earnings in Canada? Nah…Pipe dream…
That money will fly out of our country, our province, faster than he can say: “You’re fired”…!
*& we’ll be left with more induced seismicity & alot of swans & beavers wondering which country they belong to in order to plead the case for their lives…
& we’ll be missing those geese & Mute swans that we thought were too many…& those American minks…
p.s. Ivanka said how great it was for their business that all these distressed properties are available…
