Ontario Bio-Diversity Goals…

There is a lot that talks about not doing this or not doing that on this site… Not polluting, not encroaching on habitat, not…It is hard to get the general public excited about not doing something…I think we need to recognize that once we have incurred harm to our environment, it is our job to repair that harm, instead of saying we will not do that again… With the goal of repairing damage already done, we can then go forward to help…
For example: Simple things like the signs that get posted in public parks that say ‘do not feed the birds’ … These simple signs are enough to discourage thousands from taking an ecological view of their own lives… The act of feeding a wild bird teaches young & old, it touches the heart, & it can politicize one towards nature… Forbidding the feeding of birds creates a sense of apathy- I’d like to help those freezing cold starving birds but the law says I cannot…If people were allowed to feed the birds, not only would our local birds flourish, but we would bring joy in the hearts of those who did feed them, instead of fear of being fined…
I have been told that one can get fined for feeding a Canada goose? Really? How about a fine for feeding a developer who overdensifies the core at Yonge & Bloor causing micro-seismic & seismic activity?
This winter, I have been feeding wild bird seed to a threatened species, our Trumpeter Swans…There are some living at Bluffers park…As an artist, I have been designing a nesting platform for these majestic birds…As a trial, I put out three prototypes of my nests…Of course, Parks & Recreation threw them in the garbage one day…One cannot put out a nest for a waterbird anywhere along our lakeshore apparently without it getting thrown in the garbage by Parks & Recreation…However, these swans have not been nesting because marshland has been filled in, our islands are amusement parks, the island airport has more traffic than God, & our city & its people, our province, has lost touch with nature in a deep & cement-like way…
I am currently up for a grant to build 1000 nests for Trumpeter swans… However, the permit process has stymied me so far…I am encountering more red tape than anything…How could one possibly repair the damage that has been done to our environment when any good deed requires a committee to burn it to the ground first?
People need to be allowed to help… Not just government mandates, nor pundits on a pedestal…Repairing our environment requires proactive action- not just people saying that nature will take care of itself…Our birds have no food nor nests- whose fault is that? (& weird singling out of pigeons, Mute Swans or Canada geese as being overpopulous is a shallow perspective on nature who is desperately trying to fill in the gaps)…

About GroveCanada

Artist Statement: I like to push...Push the fold...Innovate...Figure out how to do something then figure out how to do it even better...I get bored once I accomplish something...I can’t seem to make multiples...Once it is done, it is done ; I am not going to make another one...This can hurt profitability...But I feel the paradigm of repetitive production is obsolete...I see a future where pure intellectual innovation will be rewarded without the need to commercialize it somehow...I wonder about the Star Trek idea of a new culture where money is not the driving force...I live that future already... Bio: Sari is an optimist by nature, someone who always sees the sunny side of things, even if there is no sunny side really...She grew up with two wonderful parents & a great brother...Later she married the very best guy in the world, another artist named Joseph Grove...She likes art because it is for her a happy place to be...A place where joy can reside...So she decided to make art herself because that was the nicest thing she thought she could do for people’s lives...I’d tell you more about angst or strife or misery or struggling, but really, that was not the case...But perhaps, because I am Sari ; I am writing this, my perception is warped by my extreme positivity...But, to tell you the truth, life has been good... p.s.You can read more about my credentials on my main website at http://www.grovecanada.ca ...But I have left a few things out, credential-wise... My feeling is:"By their fruits, ye shall know them" which is from the New Testament, Book of Mathew(7, 16-20)... So read my books ; see if the fruit tastes good to you...I feel those are better credentials than telling you something on a resume... p.p.s. I am a Christian...Whatever that word means to you...
